C24 Timber 3600mm
C24 timber is used in construction where the structure must remain strong, straight and reliable over time. It is chosen for builds that need to carry a load properly and stay stable once fixed in place, without relying on later adjustments.
Across the UK, C24 treated timber is widely used for structural work involving higher loads and wider spans. It suits projects where fewer joints are preferred and where the frame needs to stay firm under everyday use, not just at installation.
What is timber C24?
Timber C24 is a structural softwood that has been strength graded to a higher standard. It is not chosen by appearance and not guessed by feel. Each piece is assessed to meet specific strength and stiffness values, so it performs predictably once built into a structure.
Compared to lower grades, C24 timber is straighter and more consistent. It is typically kiln dried to control moisture and pressure treated to protect against rot and decay. That combination is important on-site. The timber moves less after installation, holds fixings better and stays stable under load.
Timber should be stored off the ground, kept clear of standing water and allowed to breathe while stacked. Any fresh cuts should be sealed before fixing, helping the timber retain its treatment and long-term stability.
Once installed, C24 timber is not meant to stand out. It supports the structure quietly and consistently, allowing the rest of the build to perform as intended. It is strong and reliable by design.
What is C24 timber used for?
C24 timber is used for structural work in floors and roof construction, where controlling movement is important. It is also chosen for longer spans and floor zones carrying higher loads, where stiffness makes a clear difference in performance.
Many homeowners also use C24 timber for garages, garden rooms and home offices. These buildings carry insulation, roofing and internal finishes. Strong framing helps everything stay in place. C24 timber is often used around staircases, landings and large openings, where the structure must hold its shape once cut and fixed.
In trade and commercial projects, C24 timber is used for structural frames, internal supports and mezzanine floors. It is also chosen for internal load-bearing partitions in open-plan layouts and for framing around large windows and door openings. It fixes cleanly and behaves as expected.
C24 treated timber is also used when strengthening existing structures. Old C24 joists are replaced. Floors are upgraded. Roof frames are improved. It is commonly used in repair work after movement or settlement, where added strength is required without changing the layout. The aim is simple. More strength. Less flex. This is not general-purpose wood. It is a structural timber used where reliability is required.
Benefits of C24 timber joists
- Higher strength and stiffness for load-bearing floors
- Better performance on longer spans
- Reduced bounce and movement under load
- Straight timber with more consistent grading
- Holds fixings securely
- Suitable for structural floors and ceilings
- Moisture resistant when treated
- Predictable behaviour once installed
- Commonly specified for UK building projects
C24 timber is supplied in standard structural sizes. The width is 47mm, with depths from 125mm to 225mm. Common imperial sizes are 5×2, 6×2, 7×2, 8×2 and 9×2. All timber is strength graded to C24 and treated for moisture resistance. Lengths are 3000mm and 3600mm, suitable for structural floors, roofs and framing.
Why choose our C24 timber?
When people buy C24 timber, they are not chasing the cheapest line on a price list. They are trying to avoid problems later. Floors that feel soft. Joists that move. Frames that need fixing twice. That is usually where good C24 timber proves its value.

FAQ
Where to buy C24 timber?
C24 timber can be purchased online from Sheet Materials Wholesale, which holds UK stock. Buying online lets you choose sizes, check availability and arrange delivery to the site or home.
What is C24 timber treated with?
Most C24 timber is pressure treated. That just means it’s been protected against damp and rot. The treatment goes into the wood, not just on top.
What size is C24 timber?
C24 timber comes in standard UK sizes. You’ll usually see a 47mm width, with different depths. It’s also sold as 5x2, 6x2, 7x2, 8x2 and 9x2 treated timber.
Can C24 timber be used outside?
Yes, if it’s treated and looked after. Seal fresh cuts, keep it off standing water and let air circulate. For fully exposed outdoor jobs, check the treatment level first.
How to tell if C24 timber is treated?
Treated timber often has a slight colour tint. It may also be marked or labelled. If in doubt, the product info will say it clearly or alternatively check with sales representative at Sheet Materials Wholesale.
