  • Description

Fire resistance is not a feature you add later. It has to be built in from the start. The 12.5mm Fire Rated Plasterboard Tapered Edge 2400 × 1200mm (8′ × 4′) is a gypsum lining board with an enhanced core formulation designed for internal drylining where fire resistance is a regulatory or project requirement. The pink facing is not decorative. It is a deliberate industry-standard visual marker that makes it immediately clear during inspection that the correct board has been installed in the correct location.

The core difference is in what happens when the temperature rises. The modified gypsum core is designed to retain structural integrity and help slow the spread of heat and flame for longer than a standard board within tested partition and ceiling systems. That time matters in a fire situation. It gives occupants more time to evacuate and gives fire protection systems more time to respond.

This board is specified for partition systems, ceiling assemblies, and shaft wall constructions where Building Regulations Part B applies or where a fire engineer has identified a requirement for passive fire protection. In multi-layer systems, it acts as the performance layer within a tested build-up. A single board forms part of a fire-resistant wall or ceiling system, with overall performance influenced by the complete construction build-up.

The tapered edge means this board integrates with standard jointing and finishing methods. No specialist tools or techniques are needed on site. Each board covers 2.88m², consistent with standard UK stud layouts and ceiling grid systems, keeping material planning straightforward on larger projects.

At 12.5mm, the board weighs up to 10 kg/m², which reflects the denser fire-resistant core. Bending breaking load reaches at least 550N on the long side and 210N on the short side. Thermal conductivity is 0.25 W/mK. Fire Reaction Class A2-s1-d0. In practical terms, this means the board makes only a very limited contribution to fire, produces minimal smoke, and does not release burning droplets when exposed to fire. Complies with EN 520+A1, with UKCA documentation available on request.

This board is not suitable for wet or humid environments. Do not use in bathrooms, plant rooms, or any space with persistent moisture.

    Why this board works:

    • Enhanced core formulation extends the time a partition or ceiling resists fire penetration, which matters for both occupant safety and regulatory compliance
    • Pink facing allows instant visual verification during inspection and snagging, with no room for doubt about what has been installed
    • Tapered edge is fully compatible with standard taping and jointing systems, no specialist finishing is required
    • Each sheet covers 2.88m², keeping material planning consistent with other boards across the same project
    • The weight of up to 10 kg/m² reflects the denser fire-resistant core without making the board unmanageable on site
    • UKCA certified and EN 520+A1 compliant, supporting compliance sign-off on regulated projects

    Where it gets used:

    • Escape routes and corridors: fire-resistant wall lining systems in stairwells, hallways, and lobby areas
    • Multi-occupancy residential buildings: separating walls and ceiling assemblies between individual units
    • Commercial offices: partition systems in buildings where Building Regulations Part B compliance is required
    • Shaft walls: lining service ducts and risers where fire compartmentation must be maintained
    • Ceiling assemblies: protecting structural elements above from fire penetration in tested build-up systems
    • Mixed-use developments: any project where a fire strategy document specifies performance-rated drylining

If your project involves a fire strategy, a Building Control inspector, or a specification that names fire performance as a requirement, this board belongs in the order.
