  • Description

The 6mm NoMorePly Cement Coated XPS Board 1200 x 600mm (4′ x 2′) is a lightweight insulated tile backer from NoMorePly, a UK brand by STS Ltd. The board has a high-performance extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam core with a thin cement coating (around 1mm on each side) that includes a glass fibre mesh embedded in a polymer-cement mortar. What you get is foam-level insulation paired with a solid surface that’s ready to tile straight onto.

Pick one up, and the low weight stands out straight away. A full 1200 x 600mm sheet weighs just 1.5 kg. Cutting is just as simple: a stanley knife scores and snaps the board cleanly.

    • Built for tiled solid floors with underfloor heating

The 6mm version is specifically designed for overboarding solid floors before tiling, and is the natural choice when you’re installing electric underfloor heating on top of concrete or screed. Because the XPS core blocks heat loss into the floor below, warmth from the cables is pushed upwards into the room rather than soaked into the slab. On top of that, the cement coating is built to cope safely with both the heat and the chemicals found in the sheathing around heating elements.

Because the foam doesn’t conduct heat, it covers up cold bridging coming from the substrate underneath and helps cut down on condensation handy in unheated bathrooms or cloakrooms sitting on cold concrete.

    • Insulation and load figures

The XPS foam core has a thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK, with an R-value of 0.18 (m²·K)/W for the 6mm board. Despite being so light, the cement-coated surface handles tile loads of up to 62 kg/m², which covers most ceramic and porcelain floor tiles including large-format ones. Compressive strength is at least 0.3 N/mm², and the foam absorbs just 0.2% water by volume over a 2-day immersion test, with zero capillary absorption.

    • Waterproof and made for wet areas

The whole board is 100% moisture resistant, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, wetrooms, shower bases and any tiled area where water is a factor. Unlike plywood, it doesn’t weaken when damp. The cement coating resists impact, holds tiles firmly, and accepts standard single-part flexible cementitious tile adhesives.

    Applications

    • Overboarding solid floors before tiling
    • Insulation layer under electric underfloor heating on solid floors
    • Tile substrate for floors in kitchens, bathrooms and wetrooms
    • Reducing condensation on cold concrete floors

When installed using the NoMorePly system (Mega Strength adhesive plus stainless steel screws and washers where needed), the board is covered by a manufacturer’s lifetime guarantee.

The board is CE and UKCA marked.

  • Questions and answers of the customers

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Do I need to glue it down as well as screw it, or is one enough?
      A

On a solid floor, it's bedded in tile adhesive across the full back, which is what bonds it to the slab. Screws and washers are added where needed for extra hold, but the full bed of adhesive is what stops it from drumming or lifting.

    2. Q Will the foam core squash under foot traffic and tile load?
      A

No. It has a compressive strength of at least 0.3 N/mm², so it takes normal floor traffic and tile loading without crushing. The thin cement skin spreads the load across the foam rather than letting it point-press.

    3. Q Does it really keep water out, or just resist it?
      A

The foam absorbs only about 0.2% water by volume over a two-day soak and has zero capillary draw, so water doesn't track through or sit in the core. That's what makes it dependable under wetroom and shower floors.

    4. Q Roughly how much heat am I saving with underfloor heating on it?
      A

The 6mm board has an R-value of 0.18, which sounds small but is enough to stop a meaningful share of your heat from sinking into a cold slab, so the floor warms up faster and holds it better than tiling onto bare concrete.

    5. Q How does the 6mm board compare with the 10mm and 12.5mm versions?
      A

The 6mm board is the slimmest option in the NoMorePly XPS range and is primarily designed for overboarding solid floors before tiling or installing electric underfloor heating. It delivers an R-value of 0.18 while keeping floor build-up to a minimum. The 10mm board increases thermal performance to an R-value of 0.30 and is typically used on timber floors. The 12.5mm board reaches an R-value of 0.37 and is generally chosen for wall applications or for projects where higher insulation performance is required.
