  • Description

The 6mm NoMorePly Fibre Cement Board A1 Non-Combustible 2400 x 1200mm (8′ x 4′) is a heavy-duty construction board from a UK brand by STS Ltd. It is made from Portland cement, treated cellulose fibres and sand, then compacted under pressure into a dense, high-strength sheet. The composition contains no fibreglass mesh, which makes the board easier to cut and 100% recyclable on site. This is the slimmest sheet in the NoMorePly range and the most versatile across both internal and external work. A 2400 x 1200mm sheet at 6mm is light enough for one person to manoeuvre on tile-backing and wetroom jobs, yet dense enough to take direct fixings onto timber or metal framing. The board has a clean, render-ready surface that accepts paint, tile adhesive, render, or plaster after priming.

    • No fibreglass mesh, and why that matters

Most fibre cement tile backers rely on a fibreglass mesh to hold the board together. NoMorePly doesn’t. The strength comes from the cellulose fibres bound into the cement itself, which has two practical payoffs on site. First, the board scores and snaps cleanly and saws without the blade dragging against mesh, so cutting is faster and the edges are tidier. Second, the offcuts are 100% recyclable rather than landfill, because there’s no glass mesh to separate out. Cutting mesh-reinforced boards is also a known skin and lung irritant, which NoMorePly avoids.

    • Fire performance

NoMorePly carries a Euroclass A1 reaction-to-fire classification under EN ISO 1182 and EN ISO 1716, the top non-combustible rating possible. In practice, this means the board adds nothing to a fire, making it a safe choice behind wood-burning stoves, boilers, oil tanks and any application where a non-combustible substrate is needed.

    • Water and durability

NoMorePly is fully water-resistant and weatherproof, which is what makes it suitable for both internal and external use. The board passes the complete BS EN 12467:2016+A1:2016 durability suite, including freeze-thaw, soak-dry, warm water, heat-rain and water impermeability tests. On site it can be left exposed to the weather for up to three months during the construction phase before rendering or finishing. For permanent external exposure, a weather-protective coating is required. The board has a density of 1.28 g/cm³ and a linear moisture variation of just 0.16%, so it stays dimensionally stable in damp conditions and won’t swell, rot or delaminate. Bending strength is 17.56 MPa dry / 12.97 MPa saturated, with thermal conductivity of 0.157 W/mK and a minimum life expectancy of 30 years. Unlike timber-based substrates such as plywood, the board keeps most of its strength when soaked and won’t rot, so it holds up in bathrooms and wetrooms where ply would eventually fail. The board is also UKCA marked and holds BDA Agrément certification (BAW-20-164-P-A-UK).

    Applications

    • Tile backing on walls in bathrooms, wetrooms and kitchens (with full edge and central support from the framing)
    • Wetroom wall lining
    • Cavity closures
    • Basement liner membrane
    • Backing board behind wood-burning stoves and boilers
    • Oil tank surrounds

For tiling floors, use our 6mm NoMorePly PrePrimed Overboard (1200 x 600), which is designed specifically to stiffen timber floors before tiling. All NoMorePly boards work as a render carrier. For structural racking sheathing, or where a thicker render base is specified, the 9mm and 12mm boards are the right call.

  • Questions and answers of the customers

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Walls or floors, which is this board for?
      A

Walls. Think tile backing, wetroom lining, stove surrounds. Tiling a floor is a different job, so grab the 6mm PrePrimed Overboard instead. It's the same thickness but built to stiffen timber so tiles don't crack when people walk on them.

    2. Q What do I fix it with?
      A

NoMorePly torx screws into timber or metal studs, 400mm centres for standard internal work. For external, fire or render applications, fixing requirements vary by system. Contact our team and we'll help you choose the right fixings for your project.

    3. Q Will it work with underfloor heating?
      A

Not this sheet, as it's a wall board. For heated floors, pick by the subfloor: the PrePrimed Overboard over timber, or the Cement Coated XPS board over concrete. The XPS one has an insulated core that sends the heat up into the room instead of letting the slab swallow it.

    4. Q 6mm, 9mm or 12mm, how do I choose?
      A

By how hard the board has to work. 6mm covers lining and backing. Go 9mm when the wall needs to take structural load (it's racking-rated, Category 1 to BS EN 594:2011) or carry render. 12mm is the one for the toughest fire-wall and high-impact builds.

    5. Q How far does it need to sit from a stove?
      A

That distance isn't set by the board, it's set by your stove. NoMorePly won't burn, so its job is to be the non-combustible layer behind the appliance. For the actual air gap, follow the clearances in your stove's manual.
