Description
This is the board most builders reach for first. The 12.5mm Standard Plasterboard Tapered Edge 2400 × 1200mm (8′ × 4′) is a gypsum lining board designed for internal walls and ceilings where no additional fire or moisture performance is required. It covers the majority of general drylining work across housing, refurbishments, office fit-outs and everyday interior construction projects.
The tapered edge profile helps create cleaner joints between boards. That recessed edge along the long sides gives jointing tape and filler space to sit flatter within the surface, making it easier to achieve a smoother finish before painting or decorating. This is why tapered edge boards are widely used for taped-and-jointed systems across modern drylining work.
At 2400 × 1200mm (8′ × 4′), this is the standard plasterboard sheet size used across most UK stud layouts and ceiling systems. Each board covers around 2.88m². That surface area helps speed up boarding work on walls and ceilings and leaves fewer taped joints to finish later.
The 12.5mm thickness is widely used across both residential and commercial interiors. It gives the board a solid feel once installed while still being practical to lift, carry, and fit on site.
The board weighs no more than 9 kg/m², with a bending breaking load of at least 550N on the long side and 210N on the short side. Thermal conductivity is 0.25 W/mK. The board achieves a Fire Reaction Class of A2-s1-d0, indicating it offers very limited contribution to fire spread. The manufacturer declares compliance with TS EN 520+A1, the product standard for gypsum plasterboards.
This board is intended for standard dry internal areas only. Spaces exposed to regular moisture or higher humidity levels are better suited to moisture resistant plasterboard instead.
Why this board works well on site:
- Tapered edge profile helps create smoother taped joints with less visible finishing lines
- Standard 2400 × 1200mm sheet size suits most UK stud spacing and ceiling layouts, reducing waste on the majority of jobs
- Each sheet covers 2.88m², so fewer boards are needed to complete a wall or ceiling run
- 12.5mm thickness gives a solid feel without making boards unnecessarily difficult to handle
- Under 9 kg/m² keeps handling manageable across a full day of ceiling and partition work
- A2-s1-d0 fire class means the board does not contribute to fire spread in general drylining applications
- UKCA certified and EN 520+A1 compliant, so compliance documentation is available when required
- Compatible with taped-and-jointed systems as well as traditional skim finishes
Commonly used for:
- Internal stud partitions in new build and renovation projects
- Suspended ceilings across domestic and commercial interiors
- Wall lining systems in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and offices
- Loft conversions where walls and ceilings remain in dry conditions
- Garage conversions fitted out as habitable rooms
- Refurbishment and repair work, replacing existing drylining
- Commercial office fit-outs and retail interior builds
From new build housing to renovation projects and commercial interiors, the 12.5mm Standard Plasterboard Tapered Edge 2400 × 1200mm remains one of the most widely used boards on site because it is practical, familiar, easy to finish and suited to a huge range of everyday drylining applications.
