    18mm Egger U748 ST9 Truffle Brown Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Brown Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and surface
    Truffle Brown is muted rather than dark or flat, warm without ever feeling heavy in a room. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt adds a soft, velvety feel that reinforces that same neutral warmth. Tested to EN 14323, the surface holds a stain resistance rating of 3 or higher, so everyday marks and spills wipe away without damaging the finish.

    Construction and performance
    This panel has a non-structural core, faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, and finished with a square cut edge that’s ready for banding. It cuts and edge-bands cleanly for bespoke work. The formaldehyde level meets E05, and fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

      A

      Yes. The chipboard core handles typical bookshelf loads well over standard shelf spans, though very long, unsupported shelves benefit from a centre support to avoid sagging over time.
    2. Q Can offcuts from a full sheet be used for smaller pieces, like shelf edges or drawer fronts?
      A

      Yes. The colour and finish are consistent across the whole sheet, so offcuts work just as well for smaller components as a full panel does for larger ones.
    3. Q Can this panel be used for a desk or table top?
      A

      It works well for the visible sides and frame of a desk. A dedicated work surface that sees constant use, spills or heavy objects is better suited to a purpose-made worktop material.
    4. Q Does this panel need to acclimatise in the room before it's fixed permanently?
      A

      Egger recommends allowing the panel to adjust to the expected room conditions before installation. Store it flat on a dry surface in an enclosed, frost-protected space until it is ready to fit.
    5. Q Is this panel suitable for a bed frame or headboard, not just cabinets and wardrobes?
      A

      Yes, it works well for that kind of furniture too. It takes standard fixings the same way a wardrobe or cabinet would, so it isn't limited to storage furniture.
