  • Description

18mm Egger U818 ST9 Dark Brown Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Brown Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and surface
Dark Brown is a genuinely saturated tone, deeper than a muted or greyed brown. It sits comfortably against lighter, natural wood types, creating real depth rather than a flat contrast. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt adds a soft, velvety feel across the surface. It also handles everyday marks and spills well, staying easy to keep looking clean.

    Construction and performance
The core of this panel is non-structural, designed for dry interior use and faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface. It can be easily cut and edge banded. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to use it

18mm Egger board U818 ST9 Dark Brown MFC suits a range of interior fit out work:

    • Kitchen cabinet fronts paired with light oak worktops.
    • Fitted wardrobe doors set against pale timber flooring.
    • Office storage and desking for a grounded, professional look.
    • Open shelving where depth of colour matters.
    • Built-in wardrobe interiors finished to match the visible fronts.

A colour matched U818 ST9 ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Can this panel be used for open shelving without warping over time?
      A

Yes, provided shelves are supported at reasonable intervals for their length. Like any chipboard panel, very long unsupported spans can sag under sustained weight, so intermediate support helps keep shelving flat long term.

    2. Q Does this decor need a specific type of screw or fixing, or do standard ones work?
      A

Standard wood screws and cam fittings work well with this panel, the same as with any Egger MFC board. Pilot holes are worth drilling first, particularly near an edge, to avoid splitting the chipboard core.

    3. Q Can this panel be used for a wardrobe interior, not just the visible doors?
      A

Definitely. The colour and finish don't change anywhere on the sheet, so it works just as well for the shelving and carcass inside as it does for the doors people actually see.

    4. Q Does the surface need resealing or maintenance over time, like a painted or oiled wood finish would?
      A

No. The melamine facing is fully finished at manufacture, so there's no resealing, oiling or recoating required, unlike a painted or oiled timber surface.

    5. Q Is it possible to get a close colour match if I need to order more of this panel at a later date?
      A

It's usually a close match, since Dark Brown is a standard part of Egger's ongoing range rather than a limited or seasonal decor. Slight variation between production batches is still possible, so ordering everything for one project together remains the safest approach.
