  • Description

18mm Egger U999 ST19 Black Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Black Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and Surface
U999 in ST19 combines a genuine, uncompromising black with the Deepskin Excellent texture, a mix of cut floret sections and linear areas that gives a lively, natural overall impression even on such a dark decor. That texture reads closer to real timber than a flat, single-tone panel, with matt and satin elements catching light differently as you move around it. Tested to EN 14323, the surface holds a stain resistance rating of 3 or higher, so everyday marks and spills lift away without damaging the finish.

    Construction and Performance
The chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, designed for dry interior use. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. The edge arrives square cut, ready for banding, and it takes further cutting and edge banding easily. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to Use It
18mm Egger board U999 ST19 Black MFC suits a range of interior fit-out work:

    • Statement cabinet fronts wanting a wood-grained black finish
    • Wardrobe doors in contemporary, monochrome bedrooms
    • Media units and TV cabinetry with a linear, grained surface
    • Office desking and partitions for a refined, textured finish
    • Bookcase and open shelving units
    • Feature wall panelling in a bold, textured black scheme

A colour matched ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

    1. Q Does the ST19 texture make this panel any harder to cut cleanly than a flat black decor?
      A

The ST19 texture is formed into the surface during pressing rather than printed on top, so clean cutting depends mainly on using suitable machinery and a sharp blade, the same as with any other Egger decorative panel.

    2. Q Is this panel heavy enough that open shelving needs extra support over a long span?
      A

For anything beyond a standard shelf width, yes. Unsupported spans can sag under sustained weight over time, so a centre bracket helps keep longer runs flat.ย

    3. Q Can this panel be used for both the doors and the carcass of a wardrobe, or is it better suited to fronts only?
      A

It works for both. There's no structural reason to limit it to fronts only, so a full wardrobe built from matching panels, doors, sides and shelves will read as one consistent piece.

    4. Q Is this a good choice for a room divider that's visible from both sides?
      A

Yes, since the panel is faced with the same finish on both sides, it looks equally finished whichever side it's viewed from, making it a good fit for a room divider or any piece viewed from more than one angle.
