  • Description

18mm Egger U999 ST20 Black Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Black Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and Surface
U999 in ST20 takes a plain black colour and adds Egger’s Metal Brushed texture, the same finish used to mimic real brushed metal. It gives the surface a subtle metallic quality that a flat colour alone wouldn’t have. Light catches the fine linear brushing at an angle, adding real depth instead of one flat tone. Tested to EN 14323, the surface holds a stain resistance rating of 3 or higher, so everyday marks and spills lift away without damaging the finish.

    Construction and Performance
This 18mm panel runs on a non-structural core, faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, and finished with a square cut edge ready for banding. Cutting and edge banding both go smoothly for bespoke work. The formaldehyde level sits at E05, and fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to Use It
18mm Egger board U999 ST20 Black MFC suits a range of interior fit-out work:

    • Statement cabinet fronts wanting a subtle metallic black finish
    • Media walls and TV surrounds catching light along the brushed grain
    • Office desking and partitions for an industrial, refined look
    • Bar or drinks cabinet fronts in a bold, statement scheme
    • Feature wall panelling in an industrial, textured black scheme

A colour matched ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

  • Questions and answers of the customers

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Does the ST20 texture actually feel different from a plain matt black, or is it just visual?
      A

Both, and you can feel the difference. The brushed pattern is pressed into the surface during manufacture, so running your fingers across it picks up a fine, linear texture rather than a completely flat feel, alongside the visual metallic effect.

    2. Q Does this panel take standard hinges and cam fittings the same way a plain black panel would?
      A

The textured surface shouldn't affect how the chipboard core takes fixings. Standard hinges, cams and dowels are expected to go in the same way they would on a completely flat decor.

    3. Q Does the brushed texture wear away or flatten out over years of handling?
      A

It shouldn't. The pattern is formed right into the surface when the panel's made, not sat on top like a coating, so day-to-day handling and cleaning won't smooth it out over time.

    4. Q How should the textured black surface be cleaned without leaving marks or damaging the finish?
      A

Use a soft, slightly damp cloth and clean in the direction of the texture. Spills should be removed promptly, while abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, furniture polish and wax-based products should be avoided, as they may scratch the surface or alter its sheen.
