Description
The 19mm Reeded MDF Long Grooved Standard Panel gives walls, ceilings and furniture a fine ribbed, fluted finish. Each 2800 x 1220mm board carries closely spaced rounded grooves running the full length, set just 12mm apart, which creates a tight, even reeded pattern. Hung upright, the ribs run vertically, the usual way to fit it. The texture is carried right across the face, so it stays consistent, and the board is easy to cut and use in different ways.
Raw and ready to finish
The board comes unprimed with a fine sand finish. It takes paint, lacquer or stain, and the dense textured surface is made for an even coat, so you can finish it in any colour you like. Prime the face first, then topcoat in your chosen colour and sheen. A light, careful key before finishing helps adhesion, but do not sand the ribbed face hard, as heavy sanding can wear down the crisp edges of the texture.
Dry interiors only
This is a standard MDF, not a moisture resistant grade, so it is strictly for dry, heated interiors. Keep it well away from bathrooms, wet rooms, kitchen splashbacks and anywhere humid or exposed to water, where it would swell and lose its shape. Treated as a dry interior panel, it stays flat and crisp.
How the panels meet
This is a square cut board that butts edge to edge, with no tongue and groove. Worth knowing before you set out a wall:
- The ribs are vertical. Fitted the standard way, the reeding runs top to bottom.
- The pattern is not synchronised across sheets. The Flute pattern does not start at a fixed point on every board, so the rib spacing across a join may not line up perfectly.
- Plan the joins. Put seams in corners, at natural breaks or behind trims, so any slight step in the rib spacing is not on show in the middle of a wall.
- Acclimatise first. Let the boards sit flat in the room for at least two days before fitting, and leave a small expansion gap around the perimeter when panelling.
Applications
- Feature walls and headboards, where fine vertical reeding adds soft texture to a room
- Reception desks, counters and bar fronts, where a fluted face reads as premium and modern
- Kitchen island ends and cabinet fronts in dry areas, where the ribbing lifts plain joinery
- Wardrobe and cupboard doors, where the texture brings depth to a flat front
- Retail and hospitality fit outs, stands and display units, where a tactile surface stands out
- Partitions and decorative screens, where the pattern works as a finished surface on show
- Mouldings and bas-relief detailing, where the embossed face is used as a design feature
This is a non structural decorative panel made by Finsa, the Fibrapan E-Z Tex Flute. It is built to the EN 622-5 fibreboard standard. Formaldehyde is very low at E05, and the board is certified to CARB2. It is an interior board with no fire rating. At 2800 x 1220mm and around 49kg, it is a large, heavy sheet, so handling, lifting, and overhead work require two people and care to protect the textured face.
