  • Description

The 9mm NoMorePly Fibre Cement Board A1 Non-Combustible 2400 x 1200mm (8′ x 4′) is the mid-thickness option in the NoMorePly range, a UK brand by STS Ltd. It is made from Portland cement, treated with cellulose fibres, sand and water, compacted under pressure into a dense, high-strength sheet. The board contains no fibreglass mesh, which makes it easier to cut and 100% recyclable on site.

A 2400 x 1200mm sheet weighs 39.5 kg. The extra thickness over the 6mm board adds real load-bearing capability, which is why the 9mm version is the one used for racking-rated wall sheathing, stove backers, fire-rated linings and structural work.

Tested at Lucideon to BS EN 594:2011, the 9mm NoMorePly board achieved a basic racking resistance of 1.79 kN/m at 0 kN top load and 1.78 kN/m at 5 kN top load, which classifies it as Category 1 to BS 5268-6.1. In practical terms, this means the board can be used as structural sheathing on timber frame walls, not just as a non-structural lining.

    Fire performance

The board is Euroclass A1 non-combustible under EN ISO 1182 and EN ISO 1716, the top reaction-to-fire rating possible. In practice, the board adds nothing to a fire, which makes it the right choice behind wood-burning stoves, boilers, oil tanks and any spot where a non-combustible substrate is needed.

    Water, durability and dimensional stability

NoMorePly passes the full BS EN 12467:2016+A1:2016 durability suite (freeze-thaw, heat-rain, warm water, soak-dry). Density of 1.28 g/cm³ and linear moisture variation of just 0.16% mean the board stays dimensionally stable when damp and won’t swell, rot or delaminate. Bending strength is 17.27 MPa dry and 14.93 MPa when saturated in warm water, so the board keeps most of its strength even when wet. Compression strength is 14.42 MPa, thermal conductivity is 0.13 W/mK, and the minimum life expectancy is 30 years.

On site, the board can be left exposed to the weather for up to 3 months during the construction phase before rendering or finishing. For permanent external exposure, a weather-protective coating is required.

    Applications

    • Structural racking sheathing on timber frame walls (Category 1 to BS EN 594:2011)
    • Stove, boiler and oil tank surrounds
    • Tile backing and wall lining in bathrooms, wetrooms and kitchens
    • Basement liner membrane and cavity closures
    • Fire-rated linings on timber or metal stud framing
    • Render carrier on timber or steel frames (with weather-protective coating for permanent exposure)

Supplied UKCA marked, with BDA Agrement certification (BAW-20-164-P-A-UK), and backed by manufacturer technical support from STS Ltd.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q For racking sheathing, what top load does the rating cover?
      A

The Category 1 racking figure holds up under load, with tested resistance of 1.78 kN/m even at 5 kN top load, so it performs as structural sheathing under realistic wall loading rather than just in an unloaded test.

    2. Q Does it keep its strength once it gets wet on site?
      A

Yes, and this matters during the build. Bending strength is 17.27 MPa dry and still 14.93 MPa saturated, so a board caught in the rain before you weatherproof it doesn't lose its structural value.

    3. Q Can I use it as a render carrier on a steel frame, not just timber?
      A

Yes, it works as a render carrier on both timber and steel frames. For permanent exposure it needs a weather-protective coating over it, and the joints and fixings should follow the render system's detailing.

    4. Q Can I use this board behind a wood-burning stove?
      A

Yes. Its A1 non-combustible classification makes it suitable as a fire-safe substrate around stoves and heating equipment when installed within the required system clearances.

    5. Q How long can the board stay exposed during construction?
      A

The board can be left exposed to normal weather conditions on site for up to 3 months during the construction phase before the final render or cladding system is installed. For permanent external exposure, a suitable weather-protective finish is still required.
