Fibre Cement Board
Fibre cement boards are next-generation building sheets created for projects where strength, safety and precision truly matter. Each board is made with a balanced blend of cement, cellulose fibres and modern additives. This composition gives the material exceptional stability, moisture protection and fire resistance. Strong, and low-maintenance, cement sheets bring a professional look to walls, ceilings, partitions and other fire-rated structures in residential and commercial builds.
What are fibre cement boards?
In construction, cement fibre boards belong to the group of fibre cement panels (also known as fiber cement panels) that are chosen for their reliability in wet, hot or high-load environments. Every fibre cement sheet can serve as a lining, cladding or backing surface. The range of thicknesses allows builders to match the board to the job – thinner sheets for light wall linings, thicker ones for partitions and fire-rated assemblies where strength and safety are key. The boards are pressed and cured to achieve the same strength throughout their core, no weak spots, no soft layers.
What are fibre cement boards used for?
Fibre cement board is used on real sites every day, not only in new buildings but also in renovation projects. Builders and fitters choose this material because of its strength, clean finish and reliable fire protection. Here are the most common areas where cement fibre boards and fiber cement panels are used:
- Wet rooms and splash zones
In bathrooms, behind sinks, around showers or near laundry areas, a fibre cement sheet works as a hard, water-resistant base under tiles and paint. The surface does not soften or bubble, and joints stay even after years of use. - Internal partitions and wall linings
For offices, corridors and busy areas, cement fibre boards provide a flat, strong surface for fixings and decorations. Door frames, skirtings and cabinets stay secure, and the boards add extra fire protection between rooms. - Lofts, plant rooms and risers
In loft spaces, boiler rooms or service shafts, fiber cement panels are installed as part of fire-resistant linings around beams, insulation and wiring. This helps meet safety standards and keeps technical zones organised and protected. - Exterior cladding and soffits
On the outside of a building, cement sheets keep their shape through rain, heat and sunlight. They give clean roof-edge lines and a tidy facade appearance with minimal maintenance.
Thickness matters
6mm and 9mm fibre cement boards are used for ceilings, wall linings and tile backing. 12mm and 18mm cement sheets suit partitions, plant rooms and other zones where extra strength is needed. The right thickness means less rework and better long-term performance on site.
Benefits of using a fibre cement board
People choose cement fibre boards because they deliver what builders actually need on site strength, safety, and a clean finish without extra effort. Professionals and homeowners alike trust this material for the following reasons:
- Builders often use a fibre cement sheet in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms where moisture is constant. It stays firm behind tiles and around sinks, keeping walls dry and stable for years.
- A fibre cement board offers excellent fire protection. The ones we sell are rated A1 as non-combustible and are recommended for plant rooms, service shafts, and partitions that must meet fire safety standards.
- Customers appreciate that every cement sheet comes with a perfectly smooth surface. It is ready for paint, plaster or tiles, no sanding needed in most cases, use a suitable primer where specified.
- Our clients often mention the long service life of cement fibre boards. They require almost no maintenance and keep their shape for decades, making them a smart investment for both new builds and renovations.
- Another reason for their popularity is sustainability. Each fibre cement board is made from durable, natural materials and produces minimal waste during installation, an eco-friendly choice that lasts.

FAQ
How to cut fibre cement board?
You will get clean edges if you plan the cut and use the right blade.
- For straight cuts, use a circular saw with a fibre-cement blade and support the cement fibre board along the full length.
- For a few small cuts, score the line with a utility knife and snap this works on thinner fibre cement sheets.
- Drill corners before cutting openings; it reduces stress cracks.
- Control dust: cut outside if possible, wear a mask and eye protection, and use extraction on the saw. Wet-cutting is another effective option, it helps to keep dust levels low and gives a cleaner edge.
- Lightly dress the edge with a rubbing stone before fitting.
What is a fibre cement board?
A cement fibre board is a dense sheet made from cement, mineral fillers, and cellulose fibres that is pressed and cured for stability. It is used as wall lining, ceiling board, cladding and partition backing where moisture resistance and fire safety are required.
- Many products in this category are rated non-combustible (A1). Check the fire class on the specific cement sheet you buy.
- The smooth face accepts paint, plaster or tile, so finishing is straightforward.
- Fibre cement panels are dimensionally stable and hold fixings well when pre-drilled.
Can you plaster fibre fibre cement board?
Yes. Plastering over fibre cement fibre boards is common and gives a clean, durable finish.
- Make the surface dust-free, then apply a suitable bonding primer.
- Tape and fill joints with alkali-resistant mesh; allow to dry.
- Apply a thin base coat and a finishing skim; keep to the manufacturer's drying times.
- On cement fibre boards in wet rooms, add a waterproofing system before decorative coats if the area is regularly soaked.
