Door Blank
Door blanks are some of the most commonly used construction materials. They are long-lasting and provide strength and security for all internal and external door applications. Some solid door blanks are also rated for fire, with resistance for between 30 and 60 minutes.
You can select the door blanks you need from a wide range offered by most retailers across the UK, including fire door blanks and external door blanks. The standard measurement for these door blanks for sale is 44mm and 54mm in thickness.
What are door blanks?
Door blanks are fire rated flush doors that can be cut to fit your doorways. They are usually bought in bulk since they can be installed in the entire home or throughout a large construction project.
Compared to the prices of fully finished flush fire doors, door blank prices are considerably lower, and that is why they are ideal for trade customers with large projects. Being unfinished means they can be customised to fit the style and architecture of the building.
We stock two ratings; FD30 (can withstand fire for up to 30 minutes) and FD60 (can withstand fire for up to an hour). These two are the most common types specified.
What are fire door blanks used for?
Fire door blanks serve the following main purposes:
- To create doors rated FD30 or FD60, suitable for stairs, exits, and locations specified by building regulations (these indicate how long the door blank can resist fire during testing).
- For internal or external doors that require durability, safety, and compliance with fire codes.
- To provide flexibility since unfinished doors can be matched to the home/building’s decor and hardware.
- For large projects or trade work where cost and compliance have to be balanced. Blanks are less expensive but can still be made fire rated, delivering good value.
Types of door blanks

FAQ
Can fire door blanks be cut to size?
Yes, they can be cut to size, as they come unfinished with a solid core that can be sized to fit your specifications and trimmings. Please refer to the manufacturer's cutting guidelines.
How to install a door blank?
This requires fitting it into an existing door frame. That means you need the skills to mortise the hinge locations on both the door and the frame, attach the hinges, and then secure the door to the frame, ensuring it leaves even gaps on all sides and slides open and shut smoothly.
What doors require an FD60 rating?
FD60 doors are usually required in large commercial settings where the risk of fire is higher, where buildings have multiple floors, or where the escape routes in the event of a fire are complex.
