  • Description

18mm Egger U504 ST9 Tyrolean Blue Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Blue Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and Surface
Tyrolean Blue is a strong, classic blue, deep enough to make a statement but never harsh. It’s the kind of colour that anchors a room rather than sitting quietly in the background. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt keeps the surface calm and even, with a soft, velvety feel that suits the boldness of the colour underneath. Tested to EN 14323, the surface holds a stain resistance rating of 3 or higher, so everyday marks and spills wipe away without damaging the finish.

    Construction and Performance
The chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, finished with a square cut edge ready for banding. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. You can cut, drill, and edge-band it using standard woodworking equipment. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to Use It
18mm Egger board U504 ST9 Tyrolean Blue MFC suits a range of interior fit-out work:

    • Kitchen cabinet fronts as a statement colour choice.
    • Wardrobe doors bringing genuine depth to a bedroom.
    • A run of matching desks and storage units in a home office.
    • Open shelving where the colour itself does the work.
    • Media console or TV unit fronts in a contemporary living room.
    • Wall panelling behind a run of joinery, tying a room together.

A colour matched U504 ST9 ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Does the colour run all the way through, or just the surface?
      A

Just the surface. The core underneath is standard chipboard, and the colour sits in the melamine facing on the top and bottom faces. Any cut or drilled edge will show the raw core, so it's worth covering with matching edging tape.

    2. Q Can offcuts from a full sheet be used later for smaller pieces?
      A

Yes, no rush there. Keep them flat and dry, and they'll match the colour and finish just as well as a fresh panel would, whenever you need a drawer front or a shelf edge.

    3. Q Is this panel finished as supplied, or does it need any coating after fitting?
      A

Ready to go straight out of the box. The melamine facing is fully cured at manufacture, so there's no sealing, oiling or lacquering needed before or after fitting.

    4. Q Can this panel be used for open shelving and bookcases, not just closed cabinets?
      A

Definitely. The colour and finish are the same across the whole sheet, so open shelves and closed doors look just as good together as they do apart.

    5. Q Does this panel need scribing to fit against an old, uneven wall?
      A

Often, yes, particularly in older properties. Measure the gap at a few points along the wall, then trim the panel edge to follow the line before final fitting, rather than assuming the wall runs perfectly straight.
