  • Description

18mm Egger U599 ST9 Indigo Blue Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Blue Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and Surface
Indigo Blue reads as an almost-black blue rather than a plain black. It belongs to Egger’s Nearly Black family of decors. Against dark brown woodgrains like walnut, it creates a genuinely elegant contrast. Paired with concrete or steel instead, the look turns cooler and more industrial. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt reinforces that character with a natural matt look and feel. It also handles everyday marks and spills well, staying easy to keep looking clean.

    Construction and Performance
This 18mm panel runs on a non-structural core, faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, and finished with a square cut edge that takes banding cleanly. Cutting and edge banding both go smoothly for made-to-measure work. The formaldehyde level meets E05, and fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to Use It
18mm Egger board U599 ST9 Indigo Blue MFC suits a range of interior fit-out work:

    • Living room media units paired with walnut accents.
    • Kitchen cabinet fronts contrasted with steel or concrete-effect surfaces.
    • Fitted wardrobe doors in contemporary, cool-toned bedrooms.
    • Office desking and partitions for an elegant, understated finish.
    • Built-in wardrobe interiors finished to match the visible fronts.

A colour matched U599 ST9 ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

  • Questions and answers of the customers

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Does this decor need any different handling or tools during cutting compared to a lighter colour panel?
      A

No. It cuts, drills and edges the same way as any other Egger MFC panel, and the matching edging tape covers the cut edge cleanly regardless of the surface colour.

    2. Q Can offcuts from a full sheet be used later for smaller pieces, or do they need to be used straight away?
      A

They can be kept and used later. As long as offcuts are stored flat and dry, there's no rush to use them immediately, they'll work just as well for drawer fronts or smaller pieces whenever needed.

    3. Q Does an imperfect edge band show up more on a near-black panel like this?
      A

Slightly more than on a lighter decor, since any gap or colour mismatch at the join contrasts more against a dark surface. Using the colour-matched edging tape and applying it carefully helps create a neat, closely matched finish.

    4. Q Can this panel be used for a fireplace surround, given its dark, elegant character?
      A

It may be used as decorative cladding only where it remains outside the fireplace manufacturer's required clearances and is not exposed to direct flame or continuous temperatures above 50ยฐC. Always check the fireplace installation instructions before specifying it.

    5. Q Can a cable management hole be cut into a media unit panel made from this material on site, or does it need factory machining?
      A

No need to send it back to a factory for this. A hole saw or fine-toothed jigsaw does the job on site, as long as the blade's sharp and the panel's properly supported to keep chipping to a minimum. Pop a cable grommet in afterwards, and the edge looks neat straight away.
