  • Description

18mm Egger U604 ST9 Reed Green Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Green Unicolours range within Eggerโ€™s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and surface
Reed Green is a green with plenty of grey in it, so it stays quiet even on large doors and wall panels. The result feels natural and restrained rather than bright or playful. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt feels smooth and even to the touch.

Egger tests how well its decorative boards cope with staining substances, and they score 3 or higher (EN 14323). They need no special care. Spills such as tea, coffee and wine should still be cleared up straight away.

    Construction and performance
The chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, finished with a square cut edge ready for banding. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. The panel can be cut, drilled and machined using suitable woodworking equipment, with exposed edges finished using matching U604 ST9 ABS edging. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to use it
18mm Egger board U604 ST9 Reed Green MFC suits a wide range of interior fit-out work:

    • Kitchen cabinet fronts and carcasses in dry areas.
    • Fitted wardrobe doors.
    • Office storage units and partition panels.
    • Open shelving and bookcases.
    • Feature wall panelling in dry rooms.
    • Built-in cupboards and alcove units.

Reed Green is also available as a matching U604 ST9 ABS edging tape, unglued and supplied in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for hot melt edgebanding machines.

A lacquered version, U604 TM Reed Green, is available separately in 19mm. It adds a matt anti-fingerprint lacquer and is designed for vertical use such as doors and fronts.

  • Questions and answers of the customers

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Can I use the ST9 and TM versions of Reed Green together in one project?
      A

It is better to keep to one version for each visible run of doors or panels. The TM board is 19mm rather than 18mm, and its lacquered surface is a different finish from the ST9 melamine. Egger also notes that colour can differ slightly between products, so compare the two against each other before you mix them.

    2. Q Does this panel need any prep work before fitting shelf pins or hinges, or can they go straight in?
      A

Itโ€™s better to drill first rather than go straight in. A quick pilot hole takes the pressure off the chipboard around the fitting, especially if itโ€™s close to an edge or corner where splitting is more likely.

    3. Q Can this panel be routed or CNC cut into shapes, such as curved cabinet fronts?
      A

Yes, it is not limited to straight cuts. The panel can be CNC cut or routed into shapes, including gentle curves and rounded corners. Use sharp carbide or diamond-tipped tooling, support the sheet fully and take light passes so the melamine does not chip along the edge. Curved edges can be banded too, but they need an edgebanding machine suited to the job.

    4. Q Should I choose 0.8mm or 2mm edging tape for Reed Green?
      A

Use 2mm on edges that get knocked often, such as shelf fronts and door edges, and 0.8mm on edges that see less contact. Egger notes that colour can differ slightly between a board and its edging, so hold the tape against an offcut before banding a whole job.

    5. Q Can this panel be used for interior wall panelling?
      A

Yes, in dry rooms such as bedrooms, living rooms and home offices. Fix the sheets to a flat, dry wall or to battens, and let them settle in the room before you cut and fit them. Band any exposed edges, and keep the panels clear of continuous heat above 50ยฐC.
