18mm Egger U899 ST9 Soft Black Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Black Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.
Colour and Surface
Soft Black carries real warmth in its base, a brown undertone running through what would otherwise read as flat black. That warmth softens the colour, so it never looks as cold or hard as true black. The ST9 Smoothtouch Matt finish has a natural matt look and feels soft and velvety to the touch. Tested to EN 14323, the surface holds a stain resistance rating of 3 or higher, so everyday marks and spills wipe away without damaging the finish.
Construction and Performance
The chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, designed for dry interior use. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. The square cut edge is ready for banding, and the surface takes further cutting and edge banding without issue. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.
