  • Description

Kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms. Spaces where steam, condensation, and everyday splashing are part of daily life. The 12.5mm Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Tapered Edge 2400 × 1200mm (8′ × 4′) is built to handle those conditions without deteriorating.

The board uses a modified gypsum core and treated facing paper that actively resist moisture absorption. It does not just slow the process down, it keeps the board structurally stable in environments where a standard board would become soft and lose its integrity within months. That means walls and ceilings that stay flat, stay firm, and stay ready for whatever finish goes on top.

One important clarification before you order: this is a moisture resistant board, not a waterproof one. It should not be used as the sole protection in a wet zone like a shower enclosure. In those situations, a separate tanking or waterproofing membrane is needed behind the tiles. What this board does is give you a stable, humidity-tolerant substrate in the spaces that surround those wet zones. The wall next to the shower. The ceiling above the bath. The partition wall in a kitchen that sits behind a worktop.

The tapered edge makes this board fully compatible with standard jointing systems, so taping and finishing approach does not need to change. Each board covers 2.88m², consistent with standard UK stud centres and ceiling grid layouts. Bending breaking load reaches at least 550N on the long side and 210N on the short side. Weight runs to 9.5 kg/m². Thermal conductivity is 0.25 W/mK. Fire Reaction Class A2-s1-d0. Meets EN 520+A1, with UKCA documentation available on request.

Do not apply rough plaster directly to this board. The correct finish is satin plaster at a maximum thickness of 1mm, which works out to approximately 1 kg/m².

    Why this board works:

    • Modified core and treated facing paper maintain structural integrity in humid conditions, where standard board would soften and fail
    • Suitable substrate beneath tiled, painted, and skim finished surfaces in humid internal areas
    • Tapered edge is fully compatible with standard taping and jointing systems, no change to your finishing process
    • Each sheet covers 2.88m², keeping material planning consistent with standard stud layouts and ceiling grids
    • Bending breaking load of at least 550N on the long side keeps the board structurally reliable once fixed
    • A2-s1-d0 fire class means moisture performance does not come at the expense of fire credentials
    • UKCA certified and EN 520+A1 compliant, so documentation is in order for regulated projects

    Where it gets used:

    • Bathroom walls and ceilings: partition walls, ceiling linings, and areas adjacent to baths and showers
    • Kitchen linings: walls behind units and worktops where steam and condensation are a daily factor
    • Utility rooms: walls and ceilings in spaces with washing machines, tumble dryers, and boilers
    • Cloakrooms and WCs: small rooms where humidity builds quickly and ventilation is limited
    • Basement conversions: interior linings in below-ground spaces with elevated ambient moisture levels
    • Garage conversions: walls and ceilings in newly habitable spaces where moisture levels need to be managed

In rooms where humidity is part of the brief, this is the board that holds up.
