What is interior plywood?

What are interior plywood sheets used for?
Interior plywood sheets work in many everyday builds and in plenty of creative projects. It is a popular choice for plywood interior walls, shelving and basic furniture.
Builders often use interior plywood for wall cladding or small partition walls. It gives a smooth, stable base that can be painted or finished in any style. It also suits built-in storage. Shelving units, wardrobes and simple cabinet frames stay strong and tidy with interior grade plywood. Many installers choose it as a flooring base in dry rooms where water contact is low.
Interior plywood also opens up space for creative ideas. It works well for under stairs storage, loft shelves and hidden compartments. You can build children’s play furniture, pet houses, simple workbenches, or indoor plant stands. Some use it to create a feature wall with cut shapes or layered panels. Types of interior plywood
Softwood plywood for interior is made from species like Elliotis Pine or Spruce. It is light, easy to handle and cost friendly. Builders use softwood sheets for general interior work, including wall lining, stud walls, subfloors and basic utility projects. The face usually has filled knots while the back can have open knots, which keeps it practical for jobs where the sheet will be covered.
Hardwood plywood for interior comes with a denser core and a more solid feel. It works well for cabinets, flooring bases, wall sections and roof layers where extra stability is needed. Grades like B/BB or BB/CC include infills and fillers, so the sheets are reliable for concealed interior use but not designed as a decorative finish.
Interior plywood is available in the standard 2440 x 1220mm (8’ x 4’) size and in a wide range of thicknesses from 9mm to 24mm. Most sheets come with a square edge and a smooth, paintable surface that suits indoor finishing. The boards meet BS EN636 classes 1, 2 or 3 depending on the sheet and are produced to CE2+ or CE4 standards. Grades include B/BB, BB/BB, BCX and C+/C, giving builders options for both stronger interior layers and utility work where the face will be covered. FSC® certification is available where marked on the product name.
