  • Description

18mm Egger U220 ST9 Soft Beige Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Beige Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and Surface
Soft Beige was designed to do the job white usually does, just with more warmth. It keeps that clean, bright quality a white scheme relies on, but reads as inviting rather than clinical. It sits comfortably in a monochrome palette with other neutrals, and just as easily alongside natural woods or stone-effect surfaces, so it doesn’t box a project into one particular style. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt reinforces that calm character with a velvety surface rather than anything glossy or reflective. It also stands up well to daily wear, meeting EN 14323’s benchmark for stain resistance.

    Construction and Performance
This 18mm panel has a non-structural chipboard core, faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, and finished with a square-cut edge ready for banding. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to Use It
18mm Egger board U220 ST9 Soft Beige MFC suits a range of interior fit-out work:

    • Kitchen cabinet fronts as a softer alternative to an all-white scheme
    • Monochrome living room shelving paired with other neutral tones
    • Office furniture and partitions wanting a bright but warm finish
    • Fitted wardrobe doors alongside natural wood or stone-effect surfaces
    • Closet systems and dressing room fittings
    • Feature wall panelling in bright, contemporary interiors

A colour matched ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

    1. Q Does Soft Beige work in a fully monochrome scheme, or does it need contrast?
      A

It works well either way. It sits comfortably in a monochrome palette alongside other neutrals, but it also holds its own against natural wood or stone-effect surfaces if more contrast is wanted.

    2. Q Does the surface yellow or discolour over time under normal room light?
      A

Under normal indoor conditions, no noticeable yellowing is expected. Melamine surfaces like this are designed to hold their colour well over years of typical use, unlike some painted or lacquered white finishes that can shift in tone.

    3. Q How does this panel behave when drilled for hinges or shelf pins?
      A

It takes standard drilling and hinge fittings the same way any Egger MFC panel does, without needing different bits or techniques. As with any chipboard, pilot holes help avoid splitting near an edge.

    4. Q Why would someone choose Soft Beige instead of a plain white decor?
      A

White can read stark or clinical in a finished room, especially under bright lighting. Soft Beige keeps a similarly clean, bright look but adds enough warmth to feel more lived-in and inviting, without the risk of a white surface showing every mark.

    5. Q Is this panel suitable for a room divider that's visible from both sides?
      A

Yes, it works well for that. Both faces of the sheet carry the same finish, so a divider looks equally finished whichever side it's viewed from, without needing a different panel for the back.
