Description
18mm Egger U960 ST9 Onyx Grey Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Anthracite Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.
Colour and Surface
Onyx Grey reads warmer and more textured than a standard flat grey, closer to raw concrete than a manufactured colour. That depth makes it a strong match for authentic woodgrains, and it combines particularly well with the grey veining found in white marble surfaces. Run a hand across it and ST9 Smoothtouch Matt feels velvety rather than slick, absorbing light instead of throwing it back, much like a poured concrete floor does. That softness keeps the finish from ever reading harsh or flat to the touch. The surface also meets EN 14323’s staining resistance benchmark of 3 or higher, so day-to-day marks and spills clean off without leaving a lasting trace.
Construction and Performance
Square cut edges come ready for banding on this 18mm chipboard core, faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. The panel can be cut, drilled and machined using suitable woodworking equipment, with exposed edges finished using matching U960 ST9 ABS edging. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.
