Description
18mm Egger U968 ST9 Carbon Grey Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mmย is manufactured in the UK by Egger, part of the Anthracite Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.
Colour and Surface
Carbon Grey sits firmly in the near-black family, with just enough blue to lift it above a flat neutral grey. That cool undertone pairs naturally with black or dark grey metal legs, brackets and handles, the hardware common to industrial and mid-century furniture. Run a hand across it, and ST9 Smoothtouch Matt feels cool and faintly powdery, closer to painted metal than warm timber. It still suits pale and darker, rustic wood pairings equally well. Tested to EN 14323, the surface holds a stain rating of 3 or higher, so everyday marks wipe away without a trace.
Construction and Performance
Its chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, finished with a square cut edge that takes banding well. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. The panel can be cut, drilled and machined using suitable woodworking equipment, with exposed edges finished using matching U968 ST9 ABS edging. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.
