  • Description

18mm Egger U156 ST9 Sand Beige Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm  is manufactured in the UK by Egger and is part of the Beige Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.

    Colour and Surface
Sand Beige is a warm, red-toned beige rather than a flat, cool neutral. That warmth makes it a versatile base colour, working comfortably as either the main surface or a quiet backdrop in a scheme. ST9 Smoothtouch Matt is a smooth texture, so the colour reads evenly across large doors and panels.

Egger tests how well its decorative boards cope with staining substances, and they score 3 or higher (EN 14323). They need no special care. Spills such as tea, coffee and wine should still be cleared up straight away.

    Construction and Performance
The chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, and finished with a square cut edge ready for banding. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. It can be cut, drilled, and edge banded using standard woodworking equipment. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    Where to Use It
18mm Egger board U156 ST9 Sand Beige MFC suits a range of interior fit out work:

    • Kitchen cabinet fronts in a warm, neutral scheme.
    • Fitted wardrobe doors in warm, neutral bedroom schemes.
    • Office desking and storage units with a soft, natural tone.
    • Open shelving where a warm neutral suits displayed items.
    • Built-in wardrobe interiors finished to match the visible fronts.
    • Feature wall panelling in warm, low-reflection schemes.

A colour matched ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 0.8mm and 2mm thicknesses for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.

There are no questions yet. Be the first to ask a question about this product.

Send me a notification for each new answer.
    1. Q Can this panel be joined edge to edge without the seam showing?
      A

A butt joint will always show some line, since this is a solid colour rather than a pattern. Careful edge banding and tight, well-aligned cuts keep it to a minimum, and using panels from the same batch helps avoid any visible colour shift at the joint.

    2. Q Are both sides finished, or is the back of the board bare chipboard?
      A

Yes, both sides are finished. The back of the board carries a decorative surface too, so you are not left with raw chipboard on the reverse. A finished face on each side also keeps the panel balanced, which helps it stay flat. This matters on shelves and cabinet interiors, where the reverse side is on show.

    3. Q Which edging should I use for exposed Sand Beige edges?
      A

Use the matching U156 ST9 ABS edging, available in 0.8mm and 2mm. The 2mm tape is the stronger choice for edges that get knocked often, such as shelf fronts and door edges. The tape is unglued, so it goes on with a hot melt edgebanding machine. Egger notes that colour can differ slightly between a board and its edging, so hold the tape against an offcut before banding a whole job.

    4. Q Does sealing the edges make this board moisture-resistant?
      A

No. The board is not moisture resistant and is intended for dry interior applications. Banding closes the cut edge and helps protect the core in normal room conditions, but it does not change the board’s rating. Do not use it where the board or its exposed edges will face persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.

    5. Q Can LED strip lighting be stuck directly to the underside of a shelf made from this panel?
      A

Yes, standard adhesive-backed LED strips stick to the melamine surface without issue. It's worth cleaning the surface first to remove any dust or residue so the adhesive bonds properly and stays in place long term.
