Description
19mm Egger U960 TM Onyx Grey Lacquered Melamine Faced Chipboard 2800 x 2070mm is manufactured in Germany by Egger, finished in PerfectSense Matt lacquer, part of the Anthracite Unicolours range within Egger’s wider Uni Colours collection.
Colour and surface
Onyx Grey is dark and warm-toned, with a concrete character that keeps it from looking flat or artificial. TM in the name is Egger’s code for its PerfectSense Matt lacquer, a very matt layer on top of the decor. It cuts down reflections, so the grey comes through clearly instead of being washed out by shine.
The finish is flat matt with a soft feel, not a sheen. That calm look is what gives Onyx Grey its solid, modern character. The anti-fingerprint properties of the lacquer keep handling marks down, which helps on doors and drawer fronts that are touched every day. As with any dark decor, marks show more easily than on a light one, so wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
Construction and performance
The 19mm chipboard core is faced on both sides with resin-impregnated decorative paper pressed into a durable melamine surface, with the PerfectSense matt lacquer bonded on top of the visible face as the finished surface. It is a non-structural panel with a square cut edge ready for banding. Fire behaviour is classified D-s2,d0 under EN 13501-1, and the formaldehyde level meets E05. This TM lacquer is rated for vertical applications or horizontal surfaces with low stress only, such as light shelving, rather than for heavily used horizontal surfaces like worktops or desktops. The panel can be cut, drilled and machined using suitable woodworking equipment. It is intended for dry interior applications. It can be used for kitchen cabinets and furniture, but should not be installed where the board or exposed edges will be subject to persistent moisture, standing water or direct wetting.
Where to use it
19mm Egger board U960 TM Onyx Grey Lacquered MFC suits a range of interior fit-out work:
- Kitchen island fronts styled to look like poured concrete, without the weight.
- Media wall panels and TV unit fronts where a low-reflection surface cuts glare.
- Home bar or drinks cabinet fronts paired with brass or matt black fittings.
- Under-stair storage fronts.
- Built-in wardrobe doors in a minimalist, low-sheen bedroom scheme.
- Office storage and cupboard fronts that call for an industrial, concrete-like look without shine.
A colour-matched U960 TM ABS edging tape is available for this decor, supplied unglued in 1mm thickness for use with hot melt edgebanding machines.
